Daniel W Coburn's 'Next of Kin' "records the interaction of a working class family living in Middle America.  A complicated relationship with family, and an immersive experience with an evangelical Christian church resulted in my loss of spiritual and domestic faith.  My work relates specifically to these personal struggles and explores the quiet suffering that occurs within the perimeter of a family unit living under the auspices of the American Dream."

Emma Livingston writes about her 'Tree portrait' series "I treat each tree as an individual, centering them in the composition as I would a person. The tree is the protagonist. I am intrigued by how each one has a personality of its own. An expression conveyed through its size, build, ‘posture’; the ‘attitude’ expressed through the display of its branches."

Nathan Cyprys writes about his project 'Neighbour State', "a series of American landscapes, strives to reveal the idiosynchracies of American life through destinations between cities. These are often the places one finds rest at, or passes through during an extended drive, often taking little notice of what lies hidden through a maze of rural roads just beyond the interstate. These are farms, tourist attractions, condemned homes and affordable motels. Yet, these are ultimately captured from a Canadian perspective, as I become a tourist upon crossing the border."

Manya Fox writes the  photographs in the 'Washington, Wyoming, Nebraska' series "were taken with a large format field camera while exploring the Western and Midwestern states of America in 2009.  Exploring the areas outside of major cities, attention is paid to tourism, recreation, and nature. Documenting these ageing and dated places with only available light, they come to represent an antidote to a globalized culture. "

Reed Young writes about his series 'The Italians' "On assignment, spending weeks and months traveling through Italy, I used my free time by photographing the strangers and characters I met. Being a big weird American, the Italians forced me into a new style: these portraits were taken with one light, each person usually giving me less than 5 minutes."

Clare Strand’s images are conceived, researched, developed and resolved through a highly unusual and personal sensibility, using a clear and decisive method of production unique to each project. Strand belongs to the everyday, yet her images evoke the mesmeric, the talismanic and the unsolvable.
